David Harris, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon at North Point Orthopaedics in Munster and Crown Point, Indiana. Specializing in minimally invasive techniques in sports medicine, Dr. Harris is versed in arthroscopic shoulder, knee, hip, and elbow surgery, and complex shoulder and knee replacement surgery.

Dr. Harris graduated from Boston University School of Medicine in Massachusetts. He pursued his orthopedic surgical training through the same university’s Orthopedic Surgical Residency Program. His specialty called him to California, where he enrolled in a subspecialty training on shoulder and sports medicine surgery at Santa Monica Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Group. Here, he provided care for elite athletes from Major League Soccer, United States Men’s and Women’s Soccer, professional cyclists during the Tour of California, Division I College Football, and the National Football League.

Dr. Harris is a master instructor for shoulder and hip arthroscopy at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA) joint educational laboratory. His practice includes arthroscopic surgery for shoulder instability, rotator cuff repair, and shoulder replacement. He focuses on knee ligament reconstruction (ACL/PCL), patellofemoral instability and realignment, cartilage restoration, elbow and hip arthroscopy, proximal hamstring tendon repairs, and fracture repair.

For Dr. Harris, patients come first. He has a patient care philosophy that focuses on communication and accessibility. He understands that trust and understanding are imperative in the patient-doctor relationship and that clinical problem solving begins with careful listening, observation, and examination. Ultimately, the concept is to return patients and athletes to the highest activity levels, comfort, and function through specialized treatments or surgery.

In college, Dr. Harris competed in Notre Dame’s Bengal Bouts Boxing. He also participated in Bookstore Basketball, the world’s largest annual outdoor basketball tournament. Dr. Harris’ athletic interests guided him toward orthopaedic surgery, and he believes his field is gratifying. Currently, he is a passionate rock climber and enjoys spending quality time with his wife and two sons.
