Melissa Cooper, PA-C, is a board-certified physician assistant at North Point Orthopaedics in Munster and Crown Point, Indiana.

Board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, Melissa has been practicing as a physician assistant for nine years, the last 4 of which have been with Dr. David J. Harris.

Upon obtaining her Master’s Degree in Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Saint Francis in 2011, Melissa practiced orthopaedic surgery for three years. She then took a position in emergency medicine and urgent care but realized her passion for orthopaedic surgery after a short time.

Melissa made the decision to return to orthopedics and, in July 2016, joined Dr. David J. Harris, a top orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine.

As a physician assistant, Melissa uses her acquired skills and knowledge to provide quality and compassionate care to all the patients she encounters. Not only does she evaluate and treat patients autonomously in the office, but she assists Dr. Harris in all aspects of surgery.

From office visits to patient education to surgical wound closures and hospital rounding, Melissa combines her compassion and knowledge with Dr. Harris’ outstanding surgical and personal skills to ensure the patient has a positive experience with successful outcomes.

Melissa is married and has one fur baby named Diesel. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and has recently traveled to China and multiple destinations in Europe and the United States. She also enjoys spending time with her family and spoiling her nephew Bentley.

Melissa continues to mentor and provide shadowing experiences for future physician assistants to share her knowledge and the passion she has for her profession.
