Podiatrist Q & A

What is a podiatrist?

A podiatrist is a physician who can diagnose and treat conditions that affect your feet and ankles.

Our staff podiatrist at North Point Orthopaedics addresses a range of foot and ankle conditions that result from falls, sports injuries, and degenerative conditions, including:

  • Bunions
  • Hammertoes
  • Tendonitis
  • Heel pain
  • Flatfoot
  • Ankle sprains
  • Foot and ankle fractures
  • Toenail and skin conditions

When should I schedule a podiatrist consultation?

You should schedule a consultation with the North Point Orthopaedics podiatrist if you have chronic foot or ankle pain or infections that you can’t treat on your own.

What treatments does the podiatrist offer?

North Point Orthopaedics offers several podiatry services on-site to address mild to severe foot and ankle conditions. Available treatments include:

Orthotics

Depending on your needs, our staff may recommend custom orthotics like shoe inserts that absorb the shock of your movements and keep your feet and ankles in proper alignment.

Regenerative medicine

Stem cell therapy and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections are also available to treat foot and ankle conditions. These regenerative therapies stimulate your body to produce new, healthy cells to replace cells that are damaged by injury or disease.

Surgery

If conservative therapies aren’t relieving your pain, you may need surgery. The orthopedic specialists offer several surgical procedures to treat foot and ankle conditions, including:

  • Arthroscopy
  • Flatfoot surgery
  • Charcot foot surgery
  • Ankle fusion and joint replacement
  • Tendon and ligament repair surgery

Microincision bunionectomy and PROstep™ minimally invasive surgery are also available to treat painful bunions, hammertoes, and other foot conditions.

If you have severe diabetic foot ulcers, you may need skin graft surgery to heal the open wound. The providers may also refer you for specialized diabetes care to lower your risk for permanent nerve damage and other diabetes complications.
